Hard stance here: Slovenia is THE most underrated elopement photography location in the Alps. Compared to Switzerland, Italy or Austria, it’s much more affordable (and laid back). The Soca Valley and Triglav national park regions have views and trails as impressive as the Italian Dolomites, or Swiss Matterhorn, for a fraction of the total trip cost.

For S&A’s vows we hiked up from the Soca River area, not far from Bovec, on a warm October evening.

We made it above the treeline as the sun beamed through the clouds.

We spotted a the ruins of a stone mountain hut, likely the remains from an old farm house or refuge, for S&A to change in. They hung their attire and helped each other slip into their outfits, smiling at their surroundings.

This old stone hut was the perfect place to change in privacy.

S pinned the boutonniere to A’s pantsuit lapel, and brushed her hair behind her ear.

Carrying their heels, they walked toward the valley overlook, holding each other for balance.

Somewhere in the distance, we could hear some wild horses, and the deep, awkward bellows of goats echoing through the valley. A propeller plane flew over us, toward the opposite peaks. A zip-liner screamed somewhere a few hundred meters down the valley to our right, and we laughed.

Elopement Vow Ceremony in Slovenian Alps

The sun set lower, the light became softer, S&As voices calmer, slower. Their throats tightened and they laughed nervously. The weight of the vows silenced them. Now, it was only the wind, and the distant roar of the Soca River far below.

We uncorked the champagne tucked safely in S’s backpack. A shook the bottle hard, and let the bubbles fly. Laughing, they held each other and finished the bottle.

After the hike up, we all agreed they’d earned a stiff drink, straight from the bottle.

Slovenia Elopement Photos: Cozy Sweaters at Dusk

With the light fading quickly, we used dusk to capture some cozy photos in their favorite fleece sweaters. Early October can come with clear, sunny and dry weather, but after the sun goes down, the chill settles fast. S&A changed into warm, comfortable clothes for the hike down.
