Couple reads emotional vows during their elopement outside Burg Eltz in Germany

Having your wedding photos at Burg Eltz means a 100% chance of the most romantic, dreamy, fairy tale vibes imaginable. This is a location for wedding photos that would make even a princess jealous. S&F booked their elopement almost exactly a year before the date, making the entire planning process stress free and extremely chill.

Having lived in Germany and Austria since 2018, I consider Burg Eltz to be one of the most charming castles in Germany. If you’re looking for the perfect romantic backdrop for wedding or elopement photos in Germany, choose Burg Eltz. This medieval castle is tucked away in a lush, green valley surrounded by trees and silence.

It’s also high on my list of the Best Places to Get Married or Elope in Germany.

WEDDING PHOTOS ON THE BRIDGE BEFORE BURG ELTZ

When you arrive at Burg Eltz for wedding photos, you want to take as much time on the bridge as you can. This is one of the best views of the castle, and if there are few or no people when you arrive, take advantage of it!

TIPS FOR PLANNING WEDDING PHOTOS AT BURG ELTZ

For wedding or elopement photos at Burg Eltz, you want to arrive shortly after sunrise. It is an extremely popular tourist location, and after 8am, the bridge and road fills with people. In the summer months, busloads of people arrive, filling the small area with hundreds of people in a matter of hours.

I recommend the months of October through May for fewer tourists. If you don’t plan on booking a castle tour inside the grounds, you can come in the off season when it’s closed. The road, bridge and trails around the castle are accessible year round!

Before choosing your elopement date at Burg Eltz, make sure there is no renovation scheduled, or most of your photos will feature lots of ugly scaffolding. The castle goes through regular periods of restoration, especially in winter.

Fun Fact: burg Eltz is 850 years old and has been in the Eltz family for over 33 generations! It is one of the few castles to survive undamaged in WWII, and was actually used to store cultural artifacts at risk for destruction by the Nazi party.

SYMBOLIC VOW CEREMONY IN THE WOODS OVERLOOKING BURG ELTZ

I don’t recommend planning your vow ceremony anywhere near the castle or bridge. It is simply too busy. There is a wonderful trail into the woods that leads to an overlook if you know where to look.

You will likely be alone once you arrive here, especially early in the morning.

Standing above Burg Eltz, these two read some of the most emotional vows. They hugged and danced with tears in their eyes as the mist circled the castle in the background.

After their symbolic vows, they popped some biodegradable floral confetti and began exploring other parts of the viewpoint. We were the only ones up there, watching people far below us walk around the castle and bridge. They sat to eat some cake and drink champagne as the cool fall mist blew clouds through. It was overcast, but it never rained. The early October colors were a mix of yellowing greens, the mosses and oak trees still vibrant and full from summer. It was the perfect sweet spot for fall wedding photos.

They couldn’t have chosen a more perfect time of year, or location, for their wedding photos in Germany.
